Marty Knepp Trio "a groove is a terrible thing to waste™"

Bio

The trio (Clem Ehoff on piano, Jason Gano on bass, and Marty Knepp on drums) began three years ago at a big band rehearsal for an upcoming engagement. The trio was to play a set prior to the big band's performance. It was clear after the first number that this trio was something special. And so the trio began to work together regularly, sharing musical ideas with each other. The
love we have for the piano based trio is close to our love for Latin Jazz.
Whether it is a standard or one of Clems incredible songs,
We promise that you will be moving to our Groove.
Our liner notes from our debut cd Dialogue say it all.
There is something magical about improvisation. Serious musicians spend
countless hours studying harmony, listening to recordings, and practicing
on their instrument. Yet despite all the hard work there are nights when the
musicians seem to soar above the clouds. And looking for that magic in
the next performance is what motivates them to carry on.
There is something magical about this trio. We seem to have a
compatibility that is unlike any trio that I have been associated with. Egos
have been put aside. Listening to each other as we play is of prime
importance. It is as if we are having an internal conversation with each
other while we are having an external conversation with the listener. This
is a musical phenomenon that I have not experienced before.
Listen to the dialogue. We hope that you enjoy it as much as we did putting
it together.
Please remember that a groove is a terrible thing to waste
