BABY DOLL LADIES CABARET PLAYBILL 2017
OH, Those Baby Doll Ladies cabaret is inspired by scholarly research and the under told chronicles, of an endearing Mardi Gras tradition of doll-masquerading dating from the early Jass days (c. 1912). Set in Old New Orleans one decade after the turn of the twentieth century, OH, Those Baby Doll Ladies cabaret is the story of a womans journey to becoming empowered. In the cabaret a group of young, determined shake dancers from the Uptown district explore their identity of womanhood working in the Doll House Jass Parlor. Faced with creating gender, political, and social openings, the main character Leola aka Baby is determined to find a better way of life. As the antics ensue to garner bigger, better business opportunities, the Doll House is challenged to face off in a competitive Mardi Gras procession against their Downtown constituents. Full of funny theatrics and Louisiana vernacular music and dancing, OH, Those Baby Doll Ladies stars Ashley Robinson, Ayanna Barham, Keah Moffett, Toya Smith, Juliana Wagner, Richelle Caiton, Brittany James, Lisa Porter and Nikita Clark. Special guest artists include Jontue Allen and LG Williams. Produced and directed by Millisia White. Choreography by Millisia White & Company.
