Mention the name Dubkor and automatically deep, roots-rock dancehall, rub-a-dub music is being processed in the mind. Born Colin Llewellyn, the smooth roots reggae crooner, just as his lifes persona, is always composed in his journey as he would in a composition of his many real life songs. He sings about situations we face everyday; our common experiences on earth. The single Verandah, released in 2006 is still doing very well today. When asked about the single, Dubkor said, Verandah is about self-confidence and self-control. Its about getting to know a person before entering a serious relationship.
The roots singer grew up in Duhaney Park, Kingston 20, which is known for various music talents. Surprisingly, music was not always at the forefront of his life, as he was forced by his father (now a major inspiration towards his music) to take piano lessons at the Viva Studios. His entry at the 1979 festivals earned him a silver medal which gave him some motivation. However, his genuine interest in music began while he was attending Exed Community College and started hanging around the band room. He recalls hearing the oneness in sound and it led him to building his own sound system. Years later he met bass player, Goff Andrews who he thanks for helping him realize after so many years of self-doubt, that he could sing. They along with Derrick George, a drummer, formed a band, now the Pikkihead Band.
Dubkor certainly has that philosophical to the core music that resonates with the mood and groove of the people wherever space and time. This singer/songwriter has the capability to point out the Diamond in the roughest of circumstances. Such evidence is found in SAME ROUTINE (2011), a single with songstress/songwriter, Empress Que, which points out situations in their surroundings and also suggests solutions. Singles such as Little Love Story and Madda Earth have been well received. Another track, Dream Girl, was released on the Dream Girl Compilation CD by Pikkihead Records which also accompanied fire brand icons like Capleton (Long Way) and Lutan Fyah (Remove My Burdens). They were heavily rotated throughout the entire entertainment hub. His Rastaman Riding album, to be released soon, features the mentioned tracks and some of Reggae's finest compositions, arrangements, presentations and of course top quality production of a meticulous and skilled team of musicians and technical operators at Pikkihead Records. The title track Rastaman Riding is moving up the main streets of international reggae communities.
Dubkor has had many performances throughout his career. Some of the most recent are the One Love Concert in Negril, Concious Reggae Party Series, Black as Cole Reggae month feature on the campus of U.W.I. and Pikkiheads Reggae Evolution Series among others.
Dubkor has five music videos to his credit: Veranda, Little Love Story, Same Routine, Defend the endz and Gideon all from the "Rastaman Riding" album.
A successfull tour of the Western United States in 2014 gave duBKor inspiration for his second album . Upon returning home to Jamaica duBKor immediately began recording for the upcoming album "Shackled & Chained" due to be released Fall of 2015.
Dubkor is extremely happy with the new album as it definately reflects his growth both as an artist and a citizen of this world.
