Bio
Senator Connie Johnson, a 33-year veteran of the legislative process, served for 24 years as Senate health policy staff, and was elected three times, to serve nine years as a Senator In the Oklahoma State Senate representing Oklahoma Citys predominantly African American Eastside. While in the Senate she focused on issues that disproportionately affected the economic and social well-being of the states poor, minorities, women and children, from a health and mental health, and human services standpoint.
She has enacted legislation and sponsored forums and programs that promote health education and awareness about prevention and management of diabetes, stroke, cancer, and tobacco in communities. An outspoken advocate for eliminating health disparities and domestic violence, her efforts to protect womens reproductive health rights were featured in The Daily Show skit, "Bro. Choice."
To assist in her pursuits, Sen. Johnson served as a member on the following Senate committees:

She made history as Oklahoma's first woman and African American to achieve a major party nomination to the US Senate.
Mother, grandmother and native Oklahoman, Sen. Johnson, is a proud product of Oklahoma City Public Schools , graduating from Frederick A. Douglass High School. She earned a full academic scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree and and went on to achieve a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Langston University.
