BOZZ LAYDEE BIO
Born in the Windy city, my father gave me the name April Poree. I think its somewhat humorous given the fact that my mother wanted to name me Jazzy. The development of my unique style is the result of a lifetime of musical influence. Growing up in a talented musical family meant that I was always surrounded by different forms of music. My grandmother was a back-up singer for the Chi-lites and the legendary blues singer Koko Taylor. My father was a DJ for Chicagos local entertainment establishments. They exposed me to a wealth of music as a child, all of which influenced my musical development. In the early 90s I joined a dance group and later formed an R&B group that allowed me to experience performing at a variety of venues. This also gave me the opportunity to explore writing my own music, develop choreography, as well as getting a feel for what type of music I wanted to pursue.
As it turns out, I found that the energy I bring when I rap tells a story in a way that my singing or dancing could not have reached. Ive always felt Queen Latifah broke ground for women like me when she came out with her song U-N-I-T-Y. For me, rap can be sexy, informative, and empowering. Through my unique music, I hope to bring all of it together with my personal poetry on what I believe would be hot in todays world. As a new and upcoming female rap artist; my goal is to not only extend my messages, but also inspire anybody willing to not only hear my music but actually listen. You know, I always here the phrase that History has a funny way of repeating itself. Well, I not only want to be a part of history, I want to make history and change a little piece of it in the process. The goal is to become main stream in a society, where female artists are sometimes overlooked.
During my rap career, I have had the opportunity to open for major artists like Lil Wayne, Jeezy, Jim Jones, Slim Thug, Lil Flip, Dope House Records, and several local upcoming artists. I have also performed for several fundraisers, fashion shows, birthday bashes, as well as car shows upon request. The ability to work and learn from these artists who sell out venues, gives me the confidence to know that I have what it takes to be main stream.
